Herzlich willkommen bei der Familie und im idyllischen »Haus Kommeles« in Leiwen an der Mosel

Description: Haus Kommeles is a former farmhouse and winegrower's house made of hewn Devonian slate in the style of an Ernhaus, which was built by Mathias Weis from the year 1925 largely by his own hand in the typical Mosel-Franconian style. With its unplastered façade, the strictly symmetrical structure of the house and the economic area and the underground vaulted cellar with meter-thick load-bearing walls, it is unique in Leiwen. The name Kommeles, which has been preserved until today as a family name ("The Kommelesers") in the village community, is based on the original estate of the family on a plot of land called "Auf Kommeles". The house, originally located directly on the Moselle, was abandoned in favor of a new building after the devastating Christmas flood of 1923 and a complete flooding of the second floor. The house was then rebuilt at the very edge of the village - and thus as far away as possible from the flood-prone Moselle. From 1963 Kurt & Cäzilia Kohl (née Weis, later Thomas) managed the Kurt Kohl vineyard in the Kommeles house for 20 years. Until the abandonment of the estate, only Riesling wines were produced there, among them many highly awarded Prädikat wines up to Trockenbeerenauslesen and Eiswein. The wines were grown in the estate's own vineyards with a cultivation area of approx. 3.5 ha in the renowned wine locations Leiwener Laurentiuslay, Leiwener Klostergarten and Drohner Hofberger. Wines have not been available here for a long time, but the Kommeles House has an idyllic vacation apartment in the separate attic, which can be used by guests completely independently. It consists of 2 large bedrooms with 4 single beds, bathroom, kitchen, dining hall and roof balcony. Optionally, a living room can be added, where an additional bed can be used if required. Old, but not old-fashioned - this is the motto for our comfortable country house style accommodation. Among other things, you will have a fast internet connection with 120 MBit/s plus WLAN with HotSpot, as well as satellite TV at your disposal. Some selected family heirlooms give the accommodation a very special and homely flair. The vacation apartment is located at the front side at a little frequented street in the "Oberdorf" of Leiwen. The two bedrooms, the dining hall and the half-open roof balcony are located on the rear and very quiet south side of the house, which is surrounded by a well-kept garden with lawn and bushes. Vacation guests can use a wooden cabin in the garden, part of the lawn and a separate barbecue area free of charge. In the yard there are also free parking spaces for cars. A sheltered garage space in the former barn can also be rented for an additional charge. You local contact is Andreas Kohl, which already in the fourth generation manages the house Kommeles.
